About Vaughn Ambrose

A native of Eastern North Carolina, Vaughn Ambrose earned his Bachelor of Music in Music Education and Master of Music in Jazz Studies from East Carolina University, studying under distinguished mentors including Bob Mintzer and Carroll V. Dashiell Jr. As both a performer and teacher, he has become a respected figure in the jazz community, equally committed to artistic excellence and music education.

Ambrose has performed extensively across the East Coast and beyond with his own ensembles, leading jazz quartets and larger groups in venues ranging from club stages to festival settings. His musical experiences include international performances with ensembles such as Alvin Atkinson and the Sound Merchants, including a U.S. State Department tour to Afghanistan, Armenia, Iraq, and Lebanon — a testament to his ability to connect with audiences around the world through jazz.

Beyond performance, Vaughn Ambrose serves as an educator, shaping young musicians through workshops, clinics, and ensemble direction. He has held roles such as Director of Jazz at St. Stephen’s and St. Agnes School in Alexandria, Virginia, and works with students at all levels to foster the next generation of jazz artists.

Known for his warm tone, inventive improvisation, and engaging stage presence, Ambrose brings an uplifting energy to every project.
