Gillian Margot is an accomplished jazz vocalist whose soulful, robust voice and exquisite delivery have captivated audiences around the globe. Rooted in the tradition of jazz greats, her rich vocal range and emotional depth bring a unique blend of poise and playfulness to every performance. Joining forces with world-renowned pianist Geoffrey Keezer, Margot promises a performance that will leave you spellbound.
The Main Stage ticketing is divided into Sessions. Each Session is comprised of three power-hitting Acts. Seating is divided into groups which include Premium 4-seater tables, General 6-seater tables and then General theater seating. ALL GENERAL SEATING TABLES ARE RESERVED FOR VOYAGER PASSPORT HOLDERS, so please purchase your all-access Voyager Passport in advance. You can pick up your Voyager Passports at the Box Office after 3pm on the first day of the festival. All proceeds from the Mid-Atlantic Jazz Festival directly support efforts of the Jazz Academy of Music.
About Gillian Margot
Gillian Margot, a native of Toronto, Canada, is an accomplished jazz vocalist whose soulful, robust voice and exquisite delivery have captivated audiences worldwide. With a rich vocal range and a style rooted in the tradition of jazz greats; Margot brings an emotional depth to her performances that combines poise and playfulness.
Having studied under legends like Oscar Peterson and Freddy Cole, she skillfully moves between jazz, R&B, pop, and chamber music, performing alongside icons like Sting, Kathleen Battle, Chris Botti, and GRAMMY® winner Geoffrey Keezer.
Margot’s discography showcases her versatility and passion for musical diversity. Her 2016 album, “Black Butterfly”, blends jazz standards with blues, hip-hop, and covers from artists like Curtis Mayfield and Nina Simone, while her 2020 release, “Power Flower”, pays homage to her 70s and 80s influences, featuring covers of Stevie Wonder and Wayne Shorter. Margot’s recent collaboration with Keezer, “On My Way to You”, highlights their intuitive musical synergy, offering original compositions and reimagined classics that showcase her powerful contralto voice.
Beyond performing worldwide, Margot teaches at OpenStudioJazz.com and joined the faculty of Swing University presented by Jazz at Lincoln Center. She holds a Double Baccalaureate in Fine Arts with Honors (Music & Anthropology) from York University in Toronto, and a Master of Music (Jazz) from The Juilliard School in New York. Ms. Margot continues to leave a profound mark on the world of jazz and beyond.
