2:00 pm – 3:15 pm
Join us on the brand-new Bijou Stage on Sunday, February 16, 2025, at 2:00 PM for an amazing performance by Deep Water Jazz Band.
This year’s show is a mix of original songs written by the band and songs written by Caribbean artist Ron Blake. All selections are a mix of post-bop jazz with afro-beat, latin and caribbean influences. Of course storytelling is still our main feature with original lyrics and arrangements done by the band.
About Deep Water Jazz Band
Baltimore has been the home of some tremendous talent throughout the years and Daryl Adams ranks amongst the best. He formed a seven piece ensemble to explore the uncharted Deep Water of jazz and world music with a sensibility that can only come from growing up in the port city. These dynamic artists join Daryl to create the unique sound of Deep Water:
The Deep Water Jazz Band (DWJB) sound is a remarkable ensemble, bringing together a rich tapestry of jazz history and innovation. Daryl Adams, a self-taught bass player, and his fellow musicians are dedicated to exploring new depths in jazz and world music. Drawing from the greats like Duke Ellington, Dizzy Gillespie, Thelonious Monk, and looking to Miles Davis as a visionary guide, Deep Water blends the traditional with the avant-garde. Their commitment to originality and improvisation, fueled by trust and cooperation, truly embodies the spirit of jazz. It is an incredible experience to witness their performances and feel the passion they pour into their craft.
DWJB has performed at various venues, including the Mid-Atlantic Jazz Festival, An Die Musik, Westminster Presbyterian Church Jazz Nights and corporate events. Their music and performances are a celebration of jazz’s rich history and its evolving future as they explore subgenres like bebop, hard bop, and modal jazz, always with an eye towards innovation and the future of jazz. Attending one of their concerts is a memorable experience for any jazz enthusiast.
The DWJB incorporates storytelling into their music by creating a narrative through their compositions and performances. With original lyrics and spoken word they convey stories and emotions through song. Their original compositions are crafted to evoke imagery and tales that resonate with the audience, taking them on a journey that seeks the “sunken treasures” of the ocean floor of jazz. The band’s improvisational style further enhances the storytelling aspect, as each performance is unique and can express different facets of the same story. This approach to music aligns with the band’s philosophy of exploring uncharted territories and seeking the lost treasures of jazz, making each performance a narrative experience for the listener.
