About Chelsey Green
Dr. Chelsey Green and her ensemble, Chelsey Green and The Green Project, bring an electrifying fusion of genres that showcases her mastery of the violin and viola. A Billboard-charting artist, Dr. Green bridges classical technique with jazz, R&B, pop, soul, funk, and more, breaking boundaries in contemporary string performance. Her journey began in Houston in a jazz- and funk-loving family, launching her on a path that led to Summa Cum Laude honors from The University of Texas at Austin, followed by advanced degrees from The Peabody Conservatory and the University of Maryland. Chelsey later joined the Berklee College of Music as an Associate Professor in the String Department, where she also served as Acting Chair.
The Green Project is known for its dynamic performances, including at the GRAMMY Awards with Lizzo, the Capital Jazz Festival, the Seabreeze Jazz Festival, and the Mid-Atlantic Jazz Festival, where they’ve connected deeply with jazz audiences. The group has appeared on NPR’s Tiny Desk with Maimouna Youssef and Black Thought, and performed with the National Symphony Orchestra and the U.S. Air Force Band, demonstrating their versatility across jazz, classical, and contemporary settings. Their five studio projects and educational outreach programs have earned them a global following, with tours across the United States, Middle East, Europe, Japan, and Haiti.
Through her innovative approach and dedication to arts education, Dr. Chelsey Green continues to redefine the possibilities of jazz and classical strings, blending virtuosity with heart and reaching diverse audiences worldwide.
