About José Luiz Martins

Born and raised in São Paulo, Brazil, José Luiz Martins began his musical training in classical piano and composition at the Universidade Livre de Música. His studies later expanded internationally in Switzerland and New York, shaping the technical fluency and global sensibility that define his music today.

Now based in the Washington, D.C. area, Martins has become known for a sound that fuses Brazilian rhythms with jazz, rock, funk, and cinematic influences. His work is marked by bold harmonic choices, lyrical improvisation, and imaginative arrangements that highlight both his pianistic voice and his gift as a composer.
