Born and raised in São Paulo, Brazil, José Luiz Martins began his musical training in classical piano and composition at the Universidade Livre de Música. Now based in the Washington, D.C. area, Martins has become known for a sound that fuses Brazilian rhythms with jazz, rock, funk, and cinematic influences.
