Jon Faddis – Jazz Trumpet Icon

Performing on Friday, February 13, 2026 | Main Stage
Also performing Saturday, February 14, 2026 with William Paterson University

Jon Faddis is widely regarded as one of the greatest living trumpet masters — a musician whose extraordinary technique, musicality, and deep connection to jazz tradition have made him a benchmark of excellence for generations. Born in Oakland, California, Faddis first gained national attention as a young phenom. At just 18, he joined the legendary Lionel Hampton band, then quickly moved on to lead trumpet roles in the famed Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Orchestra.

Over a career spanning more than five decades, Faddis has led some of jazz’s most respected ensembles, including the Carnegie Hall Jazz Band (1992–2002), the Jon Faddis Jazz Orchestra of New York, and has directed tribute and big-band projects celebrating the legacy of his mentor Dizzy Gillespie. His distinctive trumpet tone — capable of soaring high-notes and lush, full-bodied melodic lines — remains instantly recognizable and deeply influential.

Beyond performance, Faddis is a dedicated educator. He serves on the faculty at Purchase College, SUNY, directing jazz performance and teaching aspiring musicians through masterclasses and workshops. His commitment to mentoring young talent is widely respected and continues the lineage of jazz tradition into future generations.

Whether leading his own projects, collaborating with student ensembles, or honoring jazz history through tribute performances, Jon Faddis embodies the power, precision, and passion of jazz trumpet — and remains a must-see live in concert.
