Giveton Gelin Quintet
The DCJazzPrix winner Giveton Gelin Quintet will be performing Friday, February 18th at 9:15 PM on the main stage. The 22-year-old trumpeter and Bahamas native, Gelin was mentored by the great trumpeter Eddie Henderson and the late trumpeter Roy Hargrove. He leads the Giveton Gelin Quintet, classic jazz, tradition-based, and original composition-fueled acoustic ensemble with piano, bass, drums, and saxophone. Within the span of three years, Gelin has played with pioneers of the NY jazz scene such as Curtin Lundy, Bobby Watson, Roy Hargrove, Sullivan Fortner, Wynton Marsalis, Ben Wolfe, and Jon Batiste. Through his quintet, the young trumpeter brings forth a new narrative to jazz music.
