Born in New York City into a musical family, Charlap began playing piano at age three. He has performed with Phil Woods, Tony Bennett, Gerry Mulligan, Wynton Marsalis, Freddy Cole, and Houston Person, and appears regularly at Jazz at Lincoln Center, Birdland, and the Village Vanguard.

In 1997 he formed the Bill Charlap Trio with bassist Peter Washington and drummer Kenny Washington, now widely recognized as one of the leading ensembles in jazz. He often performs in a duo piano setting with his wife, pianist and composer Renee Rosnes, and he is a leader in jazz education.

At the Mid-Atlantic Jazz Festival, Charlap’s artistry offers an intimate, deeply musical look at the songs and the swing that define the jazz tradition.
